Test, debug & validation

Where software meets the physical world

Analyse intermittent faults, resets, hangs and communication problems. Repeatable tests and production tools connect observed behaviour to engineering causes.

TECHNICAL SCOPE

Firmware audits, debugging and embedded device testing

Before changing code, the problem is reproduced with known power conditions, operating sequences, traffic and firmware versions. Logs, traces and hardware measurements distinguish symptoms from causes. For production testing, fixtures, signals and pass criteria are defined before automation.

Activities and verification

  • Review architecture, stack, heap, peripherals and error-handling paths.
  • Serial diagnostics, stress tests, fault injection and comparisons between versions.
  • Test procedures with device identification, results and report export.

Initial decisions and integration

I agree access, versions, measurement tools and sample availability with development and test teams. I can join an investigation or implement a focused procedure, keeping the connection between symptoms, changes and verification traceable.

A verification example

An intermittent reset is investigated by collecting context and relevant signals, forming hypotheses and seeking controlled reproduction. A fix is compared with the previous version and a regression test. An unreproduced cause remains a documented hypothesis.

Deliverables and acceptance criteria

Root-cause analysis, agreed fixes, regression tests and instructions for repeating checks. Limits and unreproduced conditions are documented rather than reported as assumed results.

Where to start

Gather firmware, logs, schematics, affected versions and a sequence reproducing the fault or describing its frequency.

How is the investigation documented?

The work defines verifiable tests and conditions. Reports distinguish reproduced issues, hypotheses and uncovered areas so next steps can be based on evidence.
